We publish slow, useful stories about the places we pass through and the things we live with.
Still & Field is a small editorial journal built around practical curiosity. We publish stories about places, making, household systems, night skies, maps, food, and the objects that support everyday routines.
We prefer specific observations to constant novelty. An article might begin with a shelf that finally works, a marked paper map, a workshop table, or a clear patch of sky after dark.
Useful enough to keep
Each story is written to stand on its own. Some offer a method; others simply make a familiar activity easier to notice. We value calm pacing, concrete detail, and advice that leaves room for individual taste.
The journal stays intentionally small so that every article can be paired with imagery that belongs to the subject rather than filling space around it.
Three editorial principles
- Specific over sweeping.We prefer one well-observed street, room, recipe or book to a list of things you “must” do.
- Useful without rushing.Practical details matter, but so does the pleasure of reading them.
- Ordinary is enough.A walk, a shelf, a market bag or a quiet morning can hold a complete story.
